Washington lawmakers are considering HB 2421, legislation that would prohibit the manufacture, sale, and distribution of new vehicle tires containing 6PPD beginning January 1, 2035.
This proposal moves forward before proven, real-world safe alternatives are available. This is not just a regulatory issue, it’s a road safety issue.
Tires are not optional equipment. They are a vehicle’s only point of contact with the road. Every stop, turn, and emergency maneuver depends on their integrity.
6PPD is a critical ingredient used in modern tire manufacturing to prevent tires from degrading due to exposure to ozone and environmental stress. Without it, tires can crack prematurely, weakening their structural performance and reducing safety.
Any change to tire chemistry must be made carefully, deliberately, and only after alternatives have been thoroughly tested under real-world driving conditions.
Contact your Representative and urge them to OPPOSE HB 2421
Policy decisions that affect essential vehicle safety equipment must be grounded in science, engineering, and proven performance.
Protect road safety.
Protect consumers.
Oppose HB 2421.
